Till Death Does Us Part

Why is it "Till Death DO us part"? Grammatically speaking shouldn't it be "Till death does us part"? Death is a singular noun and even though it is "parting" a plural pronoun, should it not still agree with the thing that is doing the parting? But why I am I speaking of this, it is a depressing matter anyway.
